Layering the colors
In order to get the patterns in a certain way, the colors have to be laid in a certain order. I started the process of learning the color palettes, meaning which colors work well together, I have to create a method. I also need to keep a journal of color mixing, layering the color, which combs or rakes to use, whether the results were good. This week, I am working with blues.
Applying the alum solution to the paper with a very clean sponge, the strokes should all be in the same direction. The size has to be consistent, and the mordanting also has to be consistent. Also, dry the paper on a surface that will not bleed into the wet paper.
The strokes must be steady and even. After the marbling is done, dry the paper on a surface that will not bleed into the wet paper. I dried on raw redwood shelves and it bled all over. THe stain are unpleasant.
